EARS Wide Area Net Script

Calling all radio amateurs for the EARS Wide Area Net !

Good evening, everyone this is <your name here> <your callsign here> in <your town here>, your net control this evening for the EARS wide area net and Newsline. This net meets every Monday evening at 8:30 pm Central time, or 9:30 pm Eastern time, to test the repeater coverage area, make announcements, and to provide Amateur Radio Newsline. All amateurs are invited to check in on any of the EARS network repeaters using 107.2 subaudible tone. Again, the tone is 107.2. I ask that when you check in, you give your name and location so we know who you are and what the coverage area of the repeater system is this evening. Also, please remember to key for a full second before you start talking to give the links time to respond.

I will take check ins first, then announcements, and then end with Newsline. I will also take late check ins at the end of the net.

I will now stand by for check-ins for the EARS Wide Area Net. Please call <your callsign here>.

[As the net grows, we will take check ins by repeater. So instead of calling for check-ins in general, you would do this...

"I will now stand by for check-ins on the 145.15 Evansville repeater for the EARS Wide Area Net. Please call <your callsign here>." (wait for check ins and acknowledge them)

After you take all the 145.15 check ins, then move on to the other repeaters.....

"I will now stand by for check-ins on the 146.925 Vincennes repeater" (wait for check ins and acknowledge them)

"I will now stand by for check-ins for the 443.925 Vincennes repeater" (wait for check ins and acknowledge them)

"I will take one last call for check-ins from any repeater in the network. Please call <your name and callsign here>. (wait for check ins and acknowledge them)

Remember to ID every 10 minutes.]

Are there any announcements for the net this evening? (take announcements from stations and make any announcements you may have)

[If there are very few check ins, you might go back around and ask for comments from each station. Normally we don't do this, but if it's only 4 or 5 it might help bring more people in.]

Hearing no [other] announcements, it's time for Newsline on the EARS wide area net. This is <your callsign>.

[Play Newsline here... or Neil can play it if you don't have the capability to do it. You can download Newsline before the net as an mp3 at www.arnewsline.org. Right click on the MP3 link and select "Save Target As.." Save the file on your computer.

Be sure to edit out or cover up the ID beeps with an ID. You can use recorded ones, or you can just say it yourself. For example: "This is <your callsign> with Newsline on the EARS Wide Area Net" If you are not using the "club" W9EAR callsign, be sure to identify your station also.]

(after Newsline) That was this week's edition of Newsline. This is <your callsign> for the EARS Wide Area Net. I'll now stand by for any late check-ins before I close the net.

(after you acknowledge all the late check-ins) Tonight we had <number of check ins> check ins [and if there were announcements, summarize them here] Thank you all for participating this evening, and we invite everyone back next Monday evening at 8:30 pm Central time, 9:30 pm Eastern time, for another EARS Wide Area Net and Newsline. This is <your name> <your callsign> closing the net and returning the repeaters back to normal operation.
