Listening to the EARS Repeater Network Could Save Your Life.

At the EARS repeater network, we take severe weather very seriously.  With the assistance of our staff meteorologists Eric Bonham, N9KDB and Chance Westfall K9RDT, the EARS network will notify you of any severe weather in the repeater listening area.  Listen for the severe weather courtesy tone in place of the usual courtesy tone, and for tail messages that tell what kind of watch or warning is in effect at that time. In addition, EARS now has its own web based RADAR service!

In addition, our direct radio link to the National Weather Service INSTANTLY alarms amateurs when weather warnings are issued.  NWS warning transmissions are automatically repeated for a duration of about two minutes, and then the repeater returns to normal operation.  The 146.925 and 443.925 repeaters in Vincennes are linked to the Edwardsport NOAA weather radio transmitter, programmed from Indianapolis, while the 145.15 repeater in Evansville is linked to the Evansville NOAA weather radio transmitter, programmed from Paducah, KY.  Of course since the repeaters are linked, you can hear both systems, providing wide area coverage. (This feature is disabled on the Vincennes repeaters during SKYWARN nets. Of course, you can hear those watches and warnings as they are issued by listening to the net.)

For forecast and current weather conditions, both the Evansville and Vincennes repeaters have an access code to listen to the NOAA hazards radio transmitter.
